Dealing with contaminated land is one of our most sought-after services. As a result, Haigh Workman has extensive experience in how to deal with contaminated land in NZ.
We use advanced techniques and state-of-the-art equipment to assess land condition accurately, whether we’re conducting preliminary site investigations or contaminated land testing and assessment, or providing detailed site investigation and validation reports.
We work right across the Northland region – from the Far North, Mid North and Bay of Islands down to Whangārei, and in north Auckland. Whether you need help understanding how to clean contaminated land, deal with contaminated land issues, assess the suitability of building on contaminated land or how to remediate contaminated land, we have the expertise to guide you through the process.
A contaminated land report provides vital insights into the nature and extent of contamination and recommends appropriate remediation strategies. We also develop ongoing monitoring and management plans to help ensure the sustainable management of contaminated sites, and compliance with contaminated land management guidelines.
When it comes to contaminated land management, our experts know the latest guidelines and regulations, chapter and verse.
If you own land and want to subdivide or change the use of that land, you need to know about the National Environment Standard for Assessing and Managing Contaminants in Soil to Protect Human Health.
If your land is, or has been, used for a hazardous activity or industry and you want to subdivide or change the use of the land, disturb the soil, or remove or replace a fuel storage system, you will need to comply with the Standard.
Compliance is important as local authorities within New Zealand are obliged to apply the Standard when considering applications for land permits and consents. This may mean that you need to undertake a HAIL (Hazardous Activities & Industries List) investigation of the land contamination resulting from hazardous substance use, storage or disposal. HAIL Reports are intended to identify most situations in New Zealand where hazardous substances could cause, and in many cases have caused, land contamination.
The services we offer include the reporting stages as directed by Ministry for the Environment Contaminated Land guidelines, ensuring that councils and local authorities receive the information they require to address the relevant issues for your site.
Our environmental engineers will co-ordinate with the relevant local authorities to address and implement a site-specific land contamination assessment to support the permit or consent, and to provide a cost-effective land remediation solution to ether mitigate contamination risks or restore your land to a safe and usable state.
